Today was the
2010 Denver Heart walk. This was the first year I participated in the 3 mile trek. I tagged along with the Denver Museum of Nature & Science team (a friend of mine works there). Every year I try to participate in the Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure, either as a racer, a volunteer, or this last year as those who slept in for the cure. *wink* I've been wanting to do the Heart race for a while, but I really don't like doing them alone and well they really aren't Jesse's thing. Lucky for me the Nature & Science Museum has a team of participants every year. This year they were there to help promote their Body Worlds Exhibit, Story of the Heart (
the one we took Cody to in March) . Heart disease is a big issue and it's effected my family greatly over the last few years especially. After taking classes with the American Heart Association & the Red Cross in CPR it's really opened my eyes to how wide spread heart disease is. Heart Disease effects women far more than they know as well.
We walk to help spread awareness, raise money for research, and promote healthy lifestyles. I had a great time this morning and I'm grateful to the DMNS team for letting me tag along.
Here are some pictures from the walk...
DMNS Group complete with canine companions
The start of the walk was wall to wall people & pets.
Along the 3 miles they had volunteers stationed holding signs
like this one with facts about Heart Disease. It was really interesting.
We made it to the finish line in no time. Good thing, because
the temperature was beginning to soar and we were wearing black shirts.
