Today I met with some old co-workers for a girls brunch. It was a great meal and fun to catch up. It was especially nice seeing my old friend Stephanie, who was in town from Portland for the weekend.

Fairs & Festivals...
It seems like today was the day for events in and around Denver. There were at least 2 other race/walks across the city today among other things like the People's Fair celebration downtown and the Chalk Art Festival on Larimer. After the Heart Walk I went home to cool off and change before hoping on a bike with Jesse to head back downtown to hit up the other events. We met up with my old friend Ryan, went to lunch, caught up on our gossip, walked around the fair, and admired the art work @ the Chalk Festival before starting the long hot uphill trip home. We definitely got our exercise in for the day maybe even the week.

Denver Heart Walk...
Today was the 2010 Denver Heart walk. This was the first year I participated in the 3 mile trek. I tagged along with the Denver Museum of Nature & Science team (a friend of mine works there). Every year I try to participate in the Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure, either as a racer, a volunteer, or this last year as those who slept in for the cure. *wink* I've been wanting to do the Heart race for a while, but I really don't like doing them alone and well they really aren't Jesse's thing. Lucky for me the Nature & Science Museum has a team of participants every year. This year they were there to help promote their Body Worlds Exhibit, Story of the Heart (the one we took Cody to in March) . Heart disease is a big issue and it's effected my family greatly over the last few years especially. After taking classes with the American Heart Association & the Red Cross in CPR it's really opened my eyes to how wide spread heart disease is. Heart Disease effects women far more than they know as well. We walk to help spread awareness, raise money for research, and promote healthy lifestyles. I had a great time this morning and I'm grateful to the DMNS team for letting me tag along.

The start of the walk was wall to wall people & pets.
Along the 3 miles they had volunteers stationed holding signs
like this one with facts about Heart Disease. It was really interesting.
We made it to the finish line in no time. Good thing, because
the temperature was beginning to soar and we were wearing black shirts.

Shark Attack come back...
The guys played their 2nd warehouse show this weekend, but this time it was at a place called the Wasteland. Although this venue had indoor plumbing that's about the only nice thing there was to say about it sadly. Even though the place was a little sub par the fellas managed to bust out a good show. They even brought back an old song they haven't performed in years, Shark Attack. I wasn't planning on videoing the set, but once I heard them start Shark Attack I had to get at least part of it on film. As a surprise their old friend Tom Murphy who writes for the Westword showed up. He reviewed the show and of course let his love of the Fathers show through. Follow the link to read the review.

and one of the guys from the Glass Hits works at a print shop, so he made some really cool prints of it. We snagged one and we're hoping to get it framed for more Ideal Father's memorabilia wall art in our living room.

The ring...
Rings are like Mountains they never photograph as lovely as they are in person.
Here are a couple photos of my ring. I wish I could have gotten a photo of it out in the sun, because that's when it really sparkles. I've now heard of several different people with the sapphire and diamond combo for their engagement rings. Apparently it's a popular combo with the British Royals too. Ooo la la! I told Jesse he did good. He chose sapphire because he knows I'm not into the typical diamond rings and his birthstone is sapphire. We're pretty much set on getting married next year in September (sapphire is the Sept birthstone), so it really is perfect. We went and got the ring sized yesterday, so now it fits better and I don't have to worry about it slipping off.
